Tinieblas is the masked persona of Manuel Leal Peña, a Mexican wrestler and actor born in Mexico City. Publicly, the character emerged through the work of Valente Pérez, editor of the magazine Lucha Libre, who developed him in the late 1960s as a rival concept for Mil Máscaras. His professional debut is reported as August 20, 1971, working as a técnico. Beyond the ring, he became widely known through Mexican wrestling cinema, especially for his appearance in Los campeones justicieros and for becoming part of the popular mythology surrounding the golden age of lucha libre. Tinieblas’ mask is one of the most recognizable in Mexican wrestling: gold with a black central panel and a distinctive, futuristic shape. Press sources also describe him as a landmark figure who extended his presence into comics, film, and television. In the public sources reviewed here, there is no confirmed final retirement or death notice.
