Fishman

STORY AND HIGHLIGHTS

Fishman

Fishman, the ring name of José Ángel Nájera Sánchez, was a Mexican professional wrestler most closely associated with the Universal Wrestling Association and, at different points before and after that era, with EMLL/CMLL, WWA, and AAA. He debuted in 1969 and adopted the Fishman persona in 1971, the identity that made him widely known. His green mask with yellow detailing became one of the most recognizable looks in Mexican lucha libre, although the reference photo may be a replica or commercial variant and should not be treated as proof of an original ring-used mask. In the ring, Fishman stood out in the light heavyweight and welterweight divisions, winning several national and international titles, including the UWA World Light Heavyweight Championship and the WWF World Light Heavyweight Championship. He was also part of notable rivalries and apuesta matches against names such as El Faraón, El Cobarde, and Sangre Chicana. In 2000, he lost his mask to Máscara Sagrada and retired soon afterward. He died on April 8, 2017.
